Instructions
- 1S1 steps forward from the upper flank — GK shifts to cover the angle
- 2S1 fires a jump shot high — GK leaps and extends to block the top corner
- 3GK lands balanced and recovers to center position
- 4S2 moves forward from the lower flank — GK adjusts to the opposite side
- 5S2 fires high — GK jumps and blocks the second top corner shot
Coaching Points
- Time the jump to peak exactly as the ball arrives at the top corner — jumping too early or too late leaves the corner open
- Extend both arms toward the target corner even when blocking one-handed — full extension covers more of the goal
- Land on both feet simultaneously with bent knees; a single-leg landing makes the next lateral movement impossible
- For high shots from acute angles, weight the jump toward the near post — the far post is the lower-percentage target
- Keep the jump vertical, not angled backward — leaning back as you jump tilts your reach away from the ball's path
Common Mistakes
- Jumping too early and being on the way down when the ball arrives at the top corner
- Reaching with only one arm instead of extending both arms toward the target corner
- Landing on one foot after the jump, making the next lateral movement impossible
- Leaning backward during the jump which tilts reach away from the ball path
- Dropping the hands after landing instead of immediately returning to ready position
