Instructions
- 1S1 drives toward goal from the upper flank creating an acute angle
- 2GK steps out off the line to narrow the shooting window
- 3S1 fires a standing shot — GK positions on the bisector to block
- 4S1 transitions to the lower flank while GK resets to center
- 5GK adjusts to the new angle and S1 fires a spin shot from below
Coaching Points
- Step toward the ball carrier as they approach — coming off the line reduces the shootable goal area significantly
- Position on the bisector of the shooting angle, not the center of the goal — these are different spots from acute angles
- Small side shuffle to track the attacker; do not turn the body sideways or you lose coverage of the far post
- On acute angles, the near post is your responsibility — protect it with your body, not just your arm
- After the block, immediately anticipate whether the ball stayed in play and reset for a rebound shot
Common Mistakes
- Staying on the goal line instead of stepping out to reduce the shooting angle
- Positioning on the center of the goal instead of the bisector of the shooting angle
- Turning the body sideways when tracking the attacker, exposing the far post
- Leaning away from the ball on acute angle shots instead of leaning into it
- Failing to adjust foot positioning when the attacker changes flanks
