1v1 Save Drill
An attacker drives directly at the goalkeeper from the 9m line in a pure 1v1 situation. The GK must charge out to close space, narrow the angle, and force an early shot before the attacker penetrates the 6m area.

Instructions
- 1ATT drives forward from 9m as GK charges out aggressively
- 2ATT angles slightly to find a shooting lane under pressure
- 3GK mirrors the angle shift and stays square to the attacker
- 4ATT takes a jump shot — GK spreads wide to block at close range
- 5GK recovers back to the goal line after the save attempt
Coaching Points
- Come off the line aggressively when the attacker is in open space — passive goalkeeping in a 1v1 nearly always loses
- Stop your forward run before the attacker commits to their shot so you can adjust lateral direction
- Make yourself as big as possible — arms wide and low, body square to the attacker
- Read the attacker's plant foot: where it points on the last step is usually where the shot goes
- Stay on your feet as long as possible; diving too early removes your ability to change direction
Common Mistakes
- Charging out too late when the attacker is already inside the 6m area
- Diving to the ground too early, allowing the attacker to simply step around
- Making the body small instead of spreading wide to cover maximum goal area
- Backpedaling while the attacker drives forward, conceding space passively
- Committing to one direction before the attacker's plant foot reveals the shot angle
