Instructions
- 1A1 shifts slightly upward to sell a decoy movement near the upper side
- 2A2 reads the overplay and cuts sharply behind the defense on a diagonal toward goal
- 3A1 delivers the pass to A2 arriving in the central scoring zone
- 4A2 receives in stride and finishes with a jump shot on goal
Coaching Points
- The fake pass must be convincing — sell it with your eyes and shoulders
- Cutter must read the defender's overplay before committing to the backdoor
- Time the cut so you arrive at the goal-line position as the pass leaves the passer's hand
- Receive on the move and shoot without stopping — hesitation kills the advantage
- If the backdoor is covered, reset and try a new action — don't force it
Common Mistakes
- The fake pass is not convincing — the defender does not commit to the overplay
- Cutter commits to the backdoor before reading whether the defender is actually overplaying
- Timing is off — the cutter arrives at the goal line too early or too late for the pass
- The cutter stops moving after receiving the pass instead of shooting immediately
- The backdoor is forced even when it is clearly covered
