Instructions
- 1A1 passes down to A2 on the lower side to start the cross-screen sequence
- 2A1 moves to the center of the court to set a cross screen on D2
- 3A2 drives forward along the lower side using the screen and advances toward the far wing
- 4A2 sends a return pass back to A1 positioned at center court
- 5A1 finishes with a jump shot on goal from the central position
Coaching Points
- Screener sets the screen on the right spot — chest-to-shoulder with the defender
- Cutter must wait for contact before using the screen — do not anticipate
- Use a change-of-pace: slow into the screen, explode off it
- The passer follows the cutter's movement and passes when the cutter clears
- Shooter must catch and release quickly — the screen only buys a fraction of a second
Common Mistakes
- Screener sets the screen too far from the defender, making it easy to avoid
- Cutter does not wait for contact before using the screen — anticipates too early
- The change of pace into and off the screen is missing — constant speed is easy to defend
- Passer does not follow the cutter's movement and delivers the ball too late
- Shooter catches the ball but takes too long to release, letting the defense recover
