Instructions

  1. 1A2 clears wide to the left wing to create space for A1's isolation drive
  2. 2A1 attacks forward through the center on a direct line toward goal
  3. 3D2 rotates from the wing to help on A1's drive, leaving A2 open
  4. 4A1 reads the help and delivers the ball out to A2 on the wing
  5. 5A2 fires a jump shot from the wing angle toward goal

Coaching Points

  • Clearing player must go wide and deep — create maximum space for the isolator
  • Isolator reads the defender's hips: drive to the side they're overcommitting
  • Do not pick up the ball until you're committed to the drive
  • Help defender must make a decision — pass the moment they commit to stop the drive
  • Receive the pass in shooting position — feet already pointed at goal

Common Mistakes

  • The clearing player does not go wide enough, crowding the isolator's driving lane
  • Isolator picks up the ball too early, losing the dribble before committing to the drive
  • Help defender commits but the pass to the open player is too slow
  • Isolator drives into the defender's strong side instead of reading the hip position
  • Support player stands flat-footed instead of being ready to catch and shoot
