Instructions

  1. 1A2 steps back to set the screen while A1 begins driving forward with the ball
  2. 2A1 uses the screen and drives through the center past both defenders
  3. 3A2 rolls forward toward the goal area after A1 clears the screen
  4. 4A1 delivers the pass to A2 arriving near the shooting position
  5. 5A2 finishes with a jump shot on goal

Coaching Points

  • Set the screen square to the defender — feet shoulder-width apart, arms tucked
  • Ball handler must wait for the screen to be fully set before using it
  • Screener roll is initiated the moment the ball handler's shoulder passes
  • Pass to the rolling screener in front of their hands, not behind
  • If the defense switches, the screener has the smaller defender — exploit the mismatch

Common Mistakes

  • Screen is set too early or too late — the ball handler arrives before it is ready
  • Screener moves their feet during the screen, creating an offensive foul
  • Ball handler uses the screen too wide, giving the defender time to recover
  • Screener rolls without checking if the ball handler has cleared the screen
  • Pass to the rolling screener goes behind their body, causing a fumble
