Instructions
- 1D1, D2, and D3 step into defensive positions as O1 holds the ball
- 2O1 passes to O2 on the upper side while D1 and D2 shift to track the ball
- 3O2 swings the ball down to O3 as D3 and D1 rotate to cover the new ball side
- 4O3 passes back to O1 who drives through the center on a long curving run
- 5D1 recovers and D3 rotates up to chase O1 approaching the shooting zone
- 6O1 fires a jump shot on goal before the defense can fully collapse
Coaching Points
- Call 'ball' every time the offensive player you're guarding receives the pass
- Call 'cutter' the moment you spot an off-ball run — give teammates a half-second warning
- Rotate communication: every defender must contribute a call each possession
- Short, sharp calls — 'switch', 'mine', 'help' — not detailed explanations
- Reward good communication in training just as much as blocked shots
Common Mistakes
- Defenders go silent after the first pass, losing track of rotations
- Switch calls come after the cutter has already passed the defender
- One dominant voice does all the calling while other defenders stay quiet
- Defenders call 'help' but do not actually move to the help position
- Communication stops when the offense speeds up ball movement
