Instructions
- 1ATT moves up toward the wing to probe the defensive zone.
- 2DEF adjusts and stays square, maintaining arm-length distance.
- 3ATT circles down toward the opposite side to test DEF's footwork.
- 4DEF rotates to track ATT and block the path to center.
- 5ATT cuts back toward the shooting zone for a standing shot.
- 6DEF reads ATT's intent and raises the block arm to contest.
Coaching Points
- Rotate your entire body to stay square to the attacker — never let them get behind your shoulder
- Take small adjustment steps constantly; don't wait for the attacker to be out of position
- Keep one hand raised toward the throwing arm at all times to contest the pass or shot
- When the attacker stops moving, expect a shot — raise your block arm immediately
- Control the space, not the attacker; give them the sideline, take away the center
Common Mistakes
- Turning sideways to the attacker and losing the ability to react to both directions
- Taking large steps and getting caught off-balance when the attacker changes direction
- Dropping the contest hand when the attacker moves, leaving the shot uncontested
- Closing the distance too aggressively and getting beaten with a quick cut
