Instructions

  1. 1A1 enters the trigger zone on the left wing; D1 and D4 spring the trap.
  2. 2Ball swings from A1 to A2 at center pivot; D2 pressures immediately.
  3. 3D1 rotates back to fill the vacated zone behind the trap position.
  4. 4Ball moves from A2 to A3 on the right wing; D3 and D5 close the new trap.
  5. 5A3 takes a jump shot on the right side under double pressure.
  6. 6D6 holds the deep zone as the last line throughout every rotation.

Coaching Points

  • Call 'trap' the moment the ball enters the trigger zone so the rotation starts instantly
  • The rotating defender must move before the trap defender closes — not after
  • Adjacent defenders: shift half a zone toward the trap; don't abandon your zone entirely
  • Deep zone defender: stay put until two rotations above you have completed — then adjust
  • If the rotation breaks down, call it out immediately and reset — don't play through chaos

Common Mistakes

  • Rotating defender waits for the trap to be set before moving, arriving too late
  • Adjacent defenders abandoning their zone entirely instead of shifting halfway
  • Deep zone defender moving up to help before upper rotations complete
  • No verbal trap call, causing adjacent defenders to miss the rotation cue
  • Attempting to play through a broken rotation instead of resetting to base positions
