Instructions
- 1A2 sprints forward to intercept the ball from D2 at mid-court
- 2A2 immediately passes to A1 on the upper side to start the counter
- 3A1 drives on a long sprint down the upper wing toward the far goal
- 4A1 sends a long diagonal pass across to A3 on the lower side
- 5A3 drives forward on a weaving run along the lower wing toward goal
- 6A3 finishes with a jump shot from the right wing position
Coaching Points
- The interception trigger is the first step — hesitation kills the counter
- Diagonal pass must lead the runner — throw to where they'll be, not where they are
- Non-ball carriers sprint wide lanes immediately — make the defense choose who to track
- Finish the counter before the defense resets — clock starts at the interception
- If outnumbered on the counter, exploit it immediately — don't slow down
Common Mistakes
- Players run the counter too slowly — the defense has time to set up before the attack arrives
- The first pass in transition is inaccurate, killing the speed advantage
- All three attackers run in a straight line instead of spreading the court
- Players try to dribble through the defense instead of passing ahead
- The counter is abandoned too early — players revert to set play before trying to score in transition
