Instructions
- 1P1 passes from the upper position across to P2 on the right side
- 2P3 cuts sharply behind the defense on a long diagonal run toward goal
- 3P2 delivers the ball to P3 arriving near the central scoring area
- 4P3 finishes with a jump shot on goal from close range
Coaching Points
- Wait for the defense to overplay before cutting — read before committing
- The backdoor cut must be hard and straight — a curved run is easy to recover against
- Passer must deliver the ball low and ahead so the cutter catches without slowing
- Cutter should already be deciding shot type before receiving — short angle or flying shot
- If the cut arrives late, adjust to a pivot position and look for the next action
Common Mistakes
- The cutter starts the backdoor run before the defender is actually overplaying
- The passer does not sell the misdirection, so the defender stays in position
- The pass into the backdoor lane is too high or too far ahead of the cutter
- The cutter receives the ball but turns away from the goal instead of toward it
- The backdoor becomes predictable because it is used every possession
