Instructions
- 1P1 passes to P2 positioned high, who catches with hands overhead and absorbs the impact
- 2P2 carries the ball forward toward center court, maintaining control at pace
- 3P2 delivers a chest-height pass to P3, who receives with soft hands forming a pocket
- 4P3 advances forward after the catch, transitioning immediately to the next action
- 5P3 passes to P4 positioned low, who fields the ball below the waist cleanly
- 6P4 drives forward and returns the ball to P1, completing the catch variation circuit
Coaching Points
- Reach toward the ball — never wait for it to come to you
- Give with the hands on impact to absorb pace; stiff hands cause the ball to bounce off
- Call the catch variation before the pass is thrown so receivers prepare the correct hand position
- Move feet to get behind the ball's line, then use hands — footwork first, hands second
- After every catch, snap immediately into the next action without a reset pause
Common Mistakes
- Waiting for the ball to arrive instead of reaching toward it to meet the pass early
- Stiff, rigid hands on reception causing the ball to bounce off on harder passes
- Feet are planted flat instead of adjusting to get behind the ball's trajectory
- Pausing after the catch to reset before the next action, losing transition speed
- Using the same catch technique for every pass height instead of adapting hand position
