Instructions
- 1P2 cuts to an open position while D1 closes in to apply pressure
- 2D2 shifts position to add a second layer of defensive contest near the receiving zone
- 3P1 delivers the pass through the defenders to P2, who catches with two firm hands under contact
- 4P2 shields the ball and drives forward, escaping the pressure toward center court
- 5P2 passes back to P1 who advances and finishes with a standing shot on goal
Coaching Points
- Keep a low, wide stance when contested — a narrow base gets knocked off balance easily
- Catch with two hands when pressured; one-handed catches under pressure invite strips
- Before receiving, identify your escape pass target — know where the ball goes next
- Use the shoulder and hip to shield, not the forearm — forearm shielding is a foul
- Be mentally ready for contact; flinching or hesitating after catching leads to turnovers
Common Mistakes
- Standing upright with a narrow base, making it easy for the defender to knock you off balance
- Attempting one-handed catches under pressure, increasing the risk of being stripped
- Shielding the ball with the forearm instead of shoulder and hip, drawing a foul
- Flinching at contact and losing focus on the incoming ball
- Not identifying the next pass target before receiving, causing a turnover under pressure
