Instructions
- 1PM drives forward to the center while O1, O2, and O3 hold their starting positions
- 2O1 shifts left along the top, O2 drops back on the left side, and O3 pulls left along the bottom
- 3D1 and D3 slide outward to cover two of the three options, leaving one open
- 4PM reads which option the defense leaves uncovered and retreats to a passing position
- 5PM delivers a quick pass to O2 on the open left side
- 6O2 receives and drives forward to finish the sequence
Coaching Points
- Scan all three options with peripheral vision before the defense sets — do not stare at one player
- The playmaker's eyes must be on the open option before the ball is released, not during
- Defense: change coverage assignment silently each rep to prevent the playmaker from predicting
- If the playmaker hesitates past 0.5 seconds, call it — in a game, the window closes by then
- Pass accuracy to open targets is non-negotiable even at speed — a fast inaccurate pass is worse than a slow accurate one
Common Mistakes
- Staring at one passing option instead of scanning all three with peripheral vision
- Hesitating past the 0.5-second decision window, allowing defenders to close the lane
- Telegraphing the pass by looking at the target before the ball is released
- Defenders using the same coverage pattern each rep instead of randomizing
- Sacrificing accuracy for speed — throwing fast but inaccurate passes to the open target
