Instructions
- 1All six players start clustered at center court in a tight formation
- 2On the signal, all players explode outward to cover all four corners and both sides
- 3Hold the spread formation briefly at maximum court coverage
- 4All players contract back to center court simultaneously maintaining team unity
Coaching Points
- The spread signal must be clear — coach's whistle or hand gesture, agreed in advance
- Each player knows their designated position on the spread — assign before the drill
- Contract back to center at the same speed you spread — discipline in both directions
- Keep sight of teammates throughout the spread — awareness of formation is the skill being trained
- Vary the pace of expansion and contraction to build adaptability
Common Mistakes
- Players do not know their designated spread position and hesitate
- The spread is uneven — some areas of the court are overcrowded while others are empty
- The contraction back to center is slower than the spread, losing discipline
- Players lose sight of teammates during the spread and cannot adjust
- The pace of expansion varies between players — some arrive early, others late
