Wing Back-Door Cut

The left wing baits the defender by faking toward the sideline, then cuts sharply back-door toward the near post to receive from the right back and finish at close range. Develops deceptive footwork and near-post awareness.

Instructions

  1. 1CB passes to RB on the right side to start the ball moving
  2. 2LW fakes a drive toward the sideline to draw the wing defender wide
  3. 3LW cuts sharply back-door behind the defender toward the near post
  4. 4RB delivers a timed pass to LW arriving at the near-post area
  5. 5LW finishes with a quick standing shot across the GK's body

Coaching Points

  • Sell the sideline fake with full body lean — a half-hearted fake fools no one
  • Make the back-door cut sharp and explosive, not gradual
  • RB: watch the LW's first step to the sideline as your trigger to prepare the pass
  • At the near post, shoot quickly — the angle is tight so hesitation is fatal
  • Aim across the GK's body to the far side of goal from this position

Common Mistakes

  • Sideline fake is half-hearted — not enough body lean to convince the defender
  • Back-door cut is gradual and predictable instead of sharp and explosive
  • RB delivers the pass too late after the LW has already been picked up at the near post
  • LW hesitates at the near post instead of shooting immediately on reception
  • Shooting at the near side where the goalkeeper is already positioned for the tight angle
