Works a 5v4 break with wide wings, a central CB, and late trailer support. Keeping width and tempo helps finish before the defense can match up.

Instructions

  1. 1CB releases an instant outlet pass to PV to start the break.
  2. 2LB and RB sprint to full court width on both sidelines.
  3. 3PV advances the ball centrally and reads the four recovering defenders.
  4. 4PV passes to RB on the right wing; T1 fills the center lane as the fifth attacker.
  5. 5RB drives deep and draws defenders; T1 arrives late as the free option.
  6. 6RB passes back to T1; T1 finishes with a jump shot from inside the 9m line.

Coaching Points

  • CB must release the outlet pass on the catch, not after surveying the court
  • Wings run the full sideline — staying narrow compresses the defense's job
  • T1 reads the wing's body language to time entry into the scoring zone
  • When the wing draws both defenders, the back-pass to T1 is automatic
  • Never force the ball into a collapsed interior — take the open outside shot

Common Mistakes

  • CB surveying the court before passing instead of releasing on the catch
  • Wings running narrow instead of stretching the full width of the court
  • Trailer arriving too early and getting marked before receiving the ball
  • Forcing the ball into a collapsed interior when the outside shot is open
  • Not communicating defensive positions, causing the CB to make a blind pass
