Instructions
- 1D3 turns the ball over; A1 secures the outlet pass instantly.
- 2A2 and A3 sprint wide to both wings simultaneously.
- 3A1 advances to center while D1 and D2 retreat under pressure.
- 4A1 passes to A2 on the upper wing to exploit the open side.
- 5A2 drives deep; A1 trails centrally as a safety valve.
- 6Ball returns from A2 to A1; A1 finishes with a jump shot at the goal.
Coaching Points
- React to the turnover instantly — the first two seconds decide the counter
- A1 must secure the outlet and look upfield before the defense drops back
- A2 and A3 sprint at the same moment, not one after the other
- The outlet pass should be crisp and flat, not a lob — no hang time for defenders
- A1 trails to give the break a safety valve if the primary wing is cut off
Common Mistakes
- Reacting slowly to the turnover and letting the defense recover their shape
- Throwing a lob outlet pass that gives defenders time to intercept
- Wings sprinting one after the other instead of simultaneously, losing the width advantage
- A1 not trailing as a safety valve, leaving no backup if the wing is cut off
- Looking downfield before securing the outlet ball, risking a fumble
