Instructions

  1. 1Hip shot: ball held at hip height, full body rotation for power generation
  2. 2Excellent for tight spaces - no room for overhead draw
  3. 3Plant feet wide for stability and balance
  4. 4Rotate shoulders and hips together - core generates power
  5. 5Release point critical: ball leaves from hip level, rising trajectory
  6. 6Use when defender blocks overhead - hip shot goes under their hands
  7. 7Keeper expects high shots - hip shot trajectory surprises

Coaching Points

  • Drive the hip through first — power comes from rotation, not the arm
  • Plant your feet wide before shooting to create a stable base for the rotation
  • Keep the ball at hip height through the wind-up; raising it defeats the purpose
  • Aim low corner — the rising trajectory will carry it past the GK's late reaction
  • Use this when defender's arms are up, not as a last resort
