Instructions
- 1W drives forward on the wing while DW shifts to match and maintain the defensive gap
- 2PV cuts toward the 6m area, forcing DP to adjust position and communicate with DW
- 3DW calls the wing movement direction to DP, splitting focus between W and PV simultaneously
- 4W pushes further toward goal while DW tracks laterally, maintaining proper defensive angle
- 5DP confirms coverage assignment verbally after each shift to keep the defensive pair connected
Coaching Points
- Call out the attacker's movement direction the instant you recognize it — verbal communication halves the partner's reaction time
- Shift your weight in the direction of the threat before committing your feet — a premature step gets exploited
- Defense-wing player keeps eyes split between attacker and the pivot simultaneously
- After each defensive shift, verbally confirm the new coverage assignment with your partner
- Wing attacker: if the defense shifts slowly, attack the vacated space immediately without waiting
Common Mistakes
- Silent defense — not calling out the attacker's movement direction to the defensive partner
- Over-committing with a full step before reading the attacker's true intention
- Tunnel vision on just one attacker instead of splitting focus between wing and pivot
- Not confirming coverage assignments after defensive shifts, leading to confusion
- Defenders crossing paths instead of switching responsibilities cleanly
