Instructions
- 1H steps forward with the ball and signals R1 to react first
- 2R1 sprints upward on cue, then immediately returns to the start position
- 3H pauses, then signals R2 who drives downward and recovers back
- 4R3 reacts last, cutting right on H's signal before resetting to center
- 5Each responder holds a ready stance until their individual cue arrives
Coaching Points
- Stay in a ready athletic stance at all times — a flat-footed responder will always be a step behind
- React to YOUR signal only; reacting to a teammate's cue is a game habit that costs possessions
- Handler: vary the delay between signals from 1 to 4 seconds so responders cannot predict the rhythm
- After each rep, the handler immediately gives feedback on the reaction time — instant feedback locks in improvement
- Mix visual and audio signals within the same set to develop both sensory channels equally
Common Mistakes
- Standing flat-footed between signals instead of staying in a ready athletic stance
- Reacting to a teammate's signal instead of only responding to your assigned cue
- Handler using a predictable rhythm, allowing responders to anticipate instead of react
- Responders guessing the signal direction instead of reading and reacting to the actual cue
- Not providing immediate feedback after each rep to reinforce the correct response
