Figure-8 Passing

Five players create a figure-8 movement pattern with diagonal passes and forward runs, training coordinated off-ball movement with ball delivery. Ideal for developing handball-specific running lines and pass timing.

Instructions

  1. 1Set up 5 players: 3 in bottom row (10, 20, 30m), 2 in top row (15, 25m)
  2. 2Ball starts at bottom-left corner
  3. 3Pass diagonally up, then across to create figure-8 running pattern
  4. 4Each player moves forward after passing to maintain flow
  5. 5Complete 4-5 cycles, approximately 4 minutes total

Coaching Points

  • Time your run so you arrive at the receiving point as the ball arrives — not before or after
  • Diagonal passes must be flat and precise — arcing passes disrupt the timing
  • Move forward after passing — static players break the figure-eight shape
  • Keep the pattern tight: wide loops lose the coordination challenge
  • Increase speed after 2-3 successful cycles to raise the warm-up intensity
