Side Shuffle Passing

Players shuffle laterally across the court while exchanging passes with a stationary feeder, training the defensive slide footwork alongside ball reception under lateral movement.

Instructions

  1. 1Feeder stands at the top; players start on the left side
  2. 2Player 1 shuffles laterally across the court toward center
  3. 3Feeder passes to the shuffling player at the midpoint
  4. 4Player catches, returns the pass, and continues shuffling right
  5. 5Next player begins shuffling as the previous one clears center

Coaching Points

  • Hips stay low throughout the shuffle
  • Face forward at all times — do not turn the body
  • Hands ready to catch before the ball arrives

Common Mistakes

  • Crossing feet during the lateral shuffle instead of maintaining side-step form
  • Rising out of the low stance during the shuffle
  • Turning the body toward the feeder instead of facing forward
  • Catching with arms extended down instead of hands up at chest height
