Instructions

  1. 1P1 launches an explosive overhead pass diagonally across to P2
  2. 2P2 catches and fires the ball back to P1 with maximum arm velocity
  3. 3P1 returns a third throw to P2, snapping the wrist on release
  4. 4P2 completes the set with a controlled return pass back to P1

Coaching Points

  • Load the throwing arm fully behind the head before initiating the throw — a short backswing reduces velocity
  • Snap the wrist sharply at the point of release to maximize ball speed and add backspin
  • Step into the throw with the opposite foot to engage the full kinetic chain from foot to fingertip
  • Control the follow-through fully; the arm should finish pointing at the target, not across the body

Common Mistakes

  • Short backswing that does not fully load the throwing arm, reducing velocity
  • Locked wrist at release instead of a sharp snap, losing 20-30% of shot speed
  • Stepping with the same-side foot instead of the opposite, breaking the kinetic chain
  • Cutting the follow-through short, causing the ball to flatten and lose accuracy
  • Throwing with the upper body only without engaging the legs and hips
