Players gradually increase passing distance from 5m to full-court range to progressively load the shoulder and arm before intensive play. Builds throw strength and trajectory accuracy.

Instructions

  1. 1Pairs start close together (5m) exchanging short passes
  2. 2Both players step back to increase the distance after each set
  3. 3Pass with full arm extension as range increases to 15-20m
  4. 4Continue stepping back until reaching near full-court distance
  5. 5Step forward to close the gap and finish at moderate range

Coaching Points

  • Full arm extension on release
  • Step into the throw for long passes
  • Catch with fingers, not palms

Common Mistakes

  • Throwing at full power from short distance before the shoulder is warm
  • Not stepping into the throw when distance increases
  • Catching with stiff arms instead of giving with the ball on reception
  • Skipping intermediate distances and jumping straight to full court
