Sprint and Recover Passing

Players sprint to a cone, receive a pass, return a pass, and jog back to the queue, training quick ball control after high-intensity running. Simulates receiving a pass during a fast break.

Instructions

  1. 1Runner 1 sprints from the sideline toward the feeder at center
  2. 2Feeder delivers a pass as the runner arrives at the cone
  3. 3Runner catches, returns the pass immediately, and jogs back
  4. 4Runner 2 launches the next sprint as Runner 1 clears the zone
  5. 5Repeat the sequence with each runner in turn

Coaching Points

  • Full sprint on approach — do not coast
  • Adjust footwork to catch while decelerating
  • Return pass before fully stopping

Common Mistakes

  • Coasting the last few meters instead of sprinting all the way to the cone
  • Stopping completely before catching instead of receiving while decelerating
  • Holding the ball too long before returning the pass
  • Jogging back at walking pace instead of maintaining active recovery
